It is a frequent complaint in our house that the critics at Entertainment Weekly do a very poor job of predicting whether children will enjoy a certain movie. A recent article in Slate suggests that the Gs are onto something, as the opinions of kids and critics were wildly varied. The main reason:
Critics often judge whether the movies are also good for adults, but not a single child we spoke to expressed any concern for whether their parents enjoyed the movie.I used to think that the best movies for kids were the ones that everyone enjoyed, but after a decade of G-rated cinema, I've changed my mind. The best kids movies are the ones kids like best. It makes sense.
