May Books

Had fun looking for stuff to read at a London bookstore this month. I don't think I have ever bought more than one new book, and this time I bought four! Really enjoyed learning about the fall of the Ottomans; not something I knew very much about.

The Fall of the Ottomans: The Great War in the Middle EastThe Fall of the Ottomans: The Great War in the Middle East

Picked this off a shelf at a London bookstore, and enjoyed it very much. I learned a lot about a part of WWI I knew precious little about, beyond Gallipoli and Lawrence of Arabia.

Our Band Could Be Your Life: Scenes from the American Indie Underground, 1981-1991Our Band Could Be Your Life: Scenes from the American Indie Underground, 1981-1991

Stumbled on this at Foyles in London. More than I wanted to know about the line from Black Flag to Nirvana, and the end of indie. I was aware of, but didn't follow most of these bands, but the stories were all interesting in their own ways.
Pebbles of Perception: How a Few Good Choices Make All The Difference

Pebbles of Perception: How a Few Good Choices Make All The Difference

Recommended by Farnam Street. From Amazon. Life coaching from an older man who has read all of the same books as me. Not a bad place to start, but I didn't learn anything.

Four Fish: The Future of the Last Wild FoodFour Fish: The Future of the Last Wild Food

From Amazon. Lots of information about fishing and aquaculture, written by someone with a passion for angling. Interesting throughout, especially the biology.
The Who Sell Out

The Who Sell Out (33⅓ #37)

From the music section of a London bookstore. Have enjoyed others in this series much more. Learned a little bit about the pop art movement, but very little about the band or the music.
