The secondhand bookstore in my neighbourhood has an eclectic collection of books in English. I'm looking forward to a somewhat more stochastic approach to book selection this year, although I also suspect that I will have less time for reading.
Book of Days: Personal Essays
Paperback used from Amazon. Not sure who recommended this very good collection of essays about life, depression and therapy.
Filters against Folly
Recommended by Farnam Street. Paperback from Amazon. Concise advice about how to see flaws in the arguments of others and your own. Interesting to read about climate change from someone writing in 1985. Recommended.
The Lessons of History
Recommended by Farnam Street. Used paperback from Amazon. Not sure about this one. Very interesting conclusions about the arcs of history, but the essays were short and unsatisfying.
The Confidence Game: The Psychology of the Con and Why We Fall for It Every Time
Hoped to learn more than I actually did. A quick read, but heavily anecdotal.
A Hero of Our Time
Recommended by Pat. On Kindle. Rollicking tale of a magnificent bastard. A little theatrical, but never dull.
